Recommended DIY Products

We like to keep things simple at resQhome.  There are some tried and true products that we use regularly to create our finishes.

Brushes

Pro-Perfect Supplies 36 Pack of Single X Thick 2 inch wide Paint and Chip Paint Brushes for Paint, Stains, Varnishes, Glues, Acrylics and Gesso. 1-1/2″ length.

We aren’t brush snobs here.  There are a lot of projects that chip brushes work just fine for.  They can even be washed and reused.  These brushes are the best ones we’ve found.  We carry them in the shop.

After trying many different chip brushes, we’ve landed on these as the best. All brushes shed. Chip brushes are known to shed, but these don’t shed nearly as much as the average chip brush. They truly are the best.

I don’t recommend using a chip brush for sealing a piece with polycrylic.  My favorite brush for that is the Wooster angle brush

If you want a soft sheen go with Satin

Once I tried the matte I was smitten!

On trend for 2018 is a high gloss finish.  They’re ready for that as well.
Minwax Polycrylic Water Based Protective Finishes, 1/2 Pint, Gloss

Here is the brush I like for applying polycrylic.

PAINT

I love paint and I love a bargain!  There are a few brands in the mid-price range that I love, but I keep going back to Waverly.  You can’t beat the price anywhere and I love the finish it gives me. There are so many colors to choose from.  I also like to be my own mixologist and create colors.  These mix well together.

Some of my favorite colors are Elephant (dark grey), Ink (black), Lagoon (aqua blue), Pool (light blue), Celery (soft green), Ivory, Ocean (royal blue), Mineral (greige), and Snow White.  I will be adding links for these soon.
